I never liked the emergency room, especially at my hospital. As a level I trauma center, it is always busy. Physicians and residents, EMTs, technicians, nurses, medical students, crash carts, and hallway stretchers pack the narrow passageways of the emergency room, itself a maze. I have trouble keeping my thoughts together over agitated patients' shouts and monitors' incessant beeping.


Advocacy Update

Get Out the Vote with ACP Voter Registration and Equitable Access to Elections Toolkit

Recognizing the strong connection between health and voting, ACP encourages all members to update their voter registration for the upcoming election, whether voting from home or in person. To support this effort, ACP has developed a Voter Registration and Equitable Access to Elections Toolkit, including information and resources related to upcoming primary and general elections and state activity.

Between now and the election, ACP is partnering with Vot-ER. This nonpartisan, nonprofit organization is hosting a Healthy Democracy Campaign (HDC) in which medical students can encourage patients and clients to register to vote. .

Patients who have type 2 diabetes mellitus and have to be hospitalized represent a special challenge for glucose control. Recent guidelines from the American Diabetes Association and the Endocrine Society provide some recommendations for glycemic goals and the use of insulin and noninsulin medications. Here, 2 diabetologists discuss the factors involved in medical care of a hospitalized patient with type 2 diabetes.

Assessment of Medical Students' Mental Health, Perspectives, Attitudes, and Extracurricular Adaptations Due to the USMLE Step 1 Exam Pass/Fail Scoring Change Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

Our present study investigated two primary areas of focus: exploring the perspectives and mental health status of medical students affected by the pass/fail score change of USMLE Step 1 and the additional modifying effects of the COVID-19. We will then compare these results to the survey administered in 2021.

Refine Your Ultrasound Skills Ahead of Clinical Rotations

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science internal medicine group in North Chicago hosted an ultrasound workshop under the guidance of Dr. Norman Lee (internal medicine) at Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC). Preclinical students were split into two groups to promote hands-on learning and refine ultrasound skills ahead of clinical rotations.
