Feature

(from the October 2024 I.M. Matters from ACP)

Combating sexually transmitted infections (STIs) involves recognizing disparities, addressing the stigma that surrounds sexual health care, and viewing testing and treatment as a comprehensive care package rather than individual concerns, experts said.

I.M. Matters from ACP is ACP's member newspaper, providing news and information for internal medicine physicians about the practice of medicine and reporting on the policies, products, and activities of ACP.

Council of Student Members Spotlight

Representation in Medicine

At the beginning of my third year, I had the typical mindset of most medical students. What will rotations be like? Am I ready to see patients? And, for my international medical students like myself, How will practicing medicine for patients internationally translate to the States?

Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) Leader Spotlight

Maximize Your Leadership Experience and Network

In my first year, I found myself drawn to various organ systems, which deepened my interest in internal medicine. Attending IMIG meetings where physicians shared their experiences made me eager to lead. As an IMIG leader, I've had the chance to engage more with internal medicine and network with professionals through the ACP Council of Student Members. The main challenge is balancing time and ensuring that events are meaningful for members.

IMIG Event Inspiration

Give Back by Sponsoring a Community Health Fair

The internal medicine group at the University of Hawaii, John A Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, HI, sponsored a community health fair in its local Chinatown district. Two faculty advisors and eight medical students screened 84 patients at stations calculating BMI, measuring blood pressure, and screening blood glucose levels.

Advocacy Update

Get Out the Vote with ACP Voter Registration and Equitable Access to Elections Toolkit

Recognizing the strong connection between health and voting, ACP encourages all members to update their voter registration for the upcoming election, whether voting from home or in person. To support this effort, ACP has developed a Voter Registration and Equitable Access to Elections Toolkit, including information and resources related to upcoming primary and general elections and state activity.

Between now and the election, ACP is partnering with Vot-ER. This nonpartisan, nonprofit organization is hosting a Healthy Democracy Campaign (HDC) in which medical students can encourage patients and clients to register to vote. .

Breaking the Silence: Restoring Justice in Academic Medicine

(from September 2024 Annals for Educators)

Annals for Educators is a Web Exclusives feature of Annals of Internal Medicine which includes activities using selected Annals articles to help medical educators in their teaching activities.
