Feature

(from the April 19, 2023, ACP Hospitalist)

Physicians tend to talk too much, especially when delivering bad news to patients, said Kencee Graves, MD, FACP. 鈥淪ometimes our patients need fewer words, more space,鈥 she said at a session at the Society of Hospital Medicine's CONVERGE, held in late March in Austin.

ACP Hospitalist is an online magazine for ACP members covering news and trends in hospital medicine. Single sign-on login is required to access this article.

Medical Student Perspective

On Death and Its Futility

She started dying on the stretcher, as it pulled away from the house toward the ambulance parked alongside the curb. You see, she didn't want to die in my aunt's home. It was 鈥渂ad luck to die in someone else's home,鈥 she would say鈥斺滻t would curse Auntie's home forever.鈥 I knew she had held out until the very end.

ACP IMpact's Medical Student Perspective series presents essays by medical students about their medical school experience. See possible topic ideas and how you can submit your essay for consideration at ACP Online.

Analyzing Annals

Distributional Cost-Effectiveness of Equity-Enhancing Gene Therapy in Sickle Cell Disease in the United States and Distributional Cost-Effectiveness: Putting Money Where Your Mouth Is on Health Equity

Gene therapy is a potential cure for sickle cell disease (SCD). Conventional cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) does not capture the effects of treatment on disparities in SCD.

Annals of Internal Medicine is the premier internal medicine academic journal published by the 管家婆心水论坛 (ACP). It is one of the most widely cited and influential specialty medical journals in the world.

Subspecialty and Combined Training Careers

Gastroenterology

In the Clinic

Dyslipidemia

Dyslipidemia is an important risk factor for coronary artery disease and stroke. Long-term, prospective epidemiologic studies have consistently shown that persons with healthier lifestyles and fewer risk factors for coronary heart disease, particularly those with favorable lipid profiles, have reduced incidence of coronary heart disease. Prevention and sensible management of dyslipidemia can markedly alter cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
