This training series consists of 13 online, self-paced activities based on common applications for POCUS in internal medicine and with an emphasis on image analysis.
The activities listed below are designed to progress sequentially, starting with听ACP POCUS 1: Obtaining Adequate Images for Interpretation. However, each activity in the curriculum can be viewed independently for targeted learning purposes.
Online activities and CME/MOC credit are free to ACP Members. Nonmembers may purchase access to claim CME/MOC credit for each module for $50.听
ACP POCUS 1: Obtaining Adequate Images for Interpretation
1 CME
This introduction to the use of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) transducers and imaging units provides foundational knowledge and prepares you to participate in subsequent modules and the ACP live POCUS training courses.
ACP POCUS 2: Lung Ultrasound
1 CME
This guide provides necessary background information on POCUS techniques for assessing the lungs and chest and prepares you for engagement with ACP hands-on POCUS training.听
ACP POCUS 3: Focused Cardiac Ultrasound
1 CME
Enhance your diagnostic tools by completing this module听on听the听basic principles of cardiac ultrasound imaging.听
ACP POCUS 4: Intra-Abdominal Free Fluid听
1 CME
This module provides necessary background information on POCUS techniques for detecting and visualizing free abdominal fluid and prepares internists for engagement with hands-on POCUS training for use in the evaluation of intra-abdominal free fluid.听
ACP POCUS 5: Urinary System听
1 CME
This module provides necessary background information on POCUS techniques for detecting and visualizing the urinary system and prepares internists for engagement with hands-on POCUS training for use in the evaluation of the urinary system.听

This guide provides necessary background information to prepare you for engagement with hands-on POCUS training for use in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis (DVT).听
ACP POCUS 7: Patient-Centered Scanning
1 CME
Learn to refine procedural, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills to ensure your patients understand the expectations and limitations of a POCUS exam.
Advanced
ACP听POCUS 8: Skin/Soft Tissue and Musculoskeletal
1 CME
Building on your previous knowledge of POCUS skills, this module introduces you to the principles of ultrasound imaging of skin, soft tissue, and the musculoskeletal system (MSK) and听reviews听probe听settings and听techniques,听image interpretation, and pathologies related to skin, soft tissue, and MSK.听
ACP POCUS 9: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm听
1 CME
In this听advanced听module, you will work through using POCUS to scan for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) and听review the听pathologies,听anatomic landmarks,听and special techniques relevant to AAA ultrasound.听
ACP POCUS 10: Gallbladder听
1 CME
In听this听advanced听module, you will learn about the indications, anatomic landmarks, probe considerations and techniques, and other POCUS skills associated with scanning the gallbladder. You will also analyze examples of pathologic findings that you may encounter during such work.听
ACP POCUS 11:听Lower Extremity Musculoskeletal
1 CME
In听this听advanced听module, you will learn how to use POCUS to scan for knee and ankle pathologies. This module covers听the most pertinent anatomic landmarks and techniques for lower extremity musculoskeletal ultrasound听and common challenges with ultrasound scans in these areas.听
ACP POCUS 12:听Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal
1 CME
This advanced module听reviews听how听to use POCUS to scan for hand, wrist, and shoulder pathologies.听It covers the anatomic landmarks and techniques for upper extremity musculoskeletal ultrasound through interactive elements, image analysis, case studies, and听short video explanations from a POCUS expert.听
ACP POCUS 13: PEARLS鈥擜n Ultrasound Physical Examination
1.5 CME
This advanced module covers a structured point-of-care approach to enhance the traditional physical examination. The PEARLS exam provides a framework for learning how to perform a multi-system ultrasound exam.
ACP鈥檚 online POCUS activities are authored by physician faculty and are prerequisites for select In-Person POCUS Courses.
