2024 Chapter Excellence Award-Gold Level Winner
(August 2024) We are pleased to announce that our chapter is in receipt of the Gold Level of the 2024 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes truly extraordinary chapters that surpass excellence in chapter management. We are in the company of 59 other outstanding chapters. In order to achieve the Gold Level of the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet 20 Bronze criteria, 14 Silver criteria and multiple Gold level activities. Criteria include such activities as having a legislative action plan or agenda, holding a volunteerism/community service activity, holding multiple stand-alone meetings, having revenue sources outside of dues and meeting registration fees, implementing a strategic plan, implementing a formal recruitment and retention plan and measuring outcomes, conducting various activities for Medical Students, Residents and Early Career Physicians. We would like to extend a special thanks to those chapter members who assisted us in all of these endeavors! For their hard work and dedication, we received this award.

State Health Advocacy August Recess Grassroots Mobilization Challenge听
(August 2024) Members of Congress are returning home to their districts during the August congressional recess. During this time, ACP is calling on internal medicine physicians to engage their representatives on important issues we need Congress to act on before the end of 2024.听
To incentivize participation in this grassroots mobilization, the Advocates for Internal Medicine Network (ACP grassroots network) is challenging members to see which states will have the highest engagement. Advocates can score points for their states by choosing to take one or more advocacy actions identified in the campaign.听

(July 2024) Are you concerned about a practice or clinical issue or have an idea you听would like to suggest? If so, you might consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or chapter council.听听
Initiating a resolution provides ACP members an opportunity to focus attention at the ACP national level on a particular issue or topic that concerns them. Participating in the Board of Governors resolutions process provides the ACP grassroots member a voice and allows you to shape College policy that impacts the practice of internal medicine.听听
Not sure how to begin drafting a resolution? Researching the College's position on an issue can give you a start. The听ACP Board of Governors Resolutions Guide for ACP Members听is available to download and will help, too.听The Guide听was created to provide members a short overview of the resolutions process essentials and highlights critical ACP online resources you must use.听听
Once drafted, members must submit resolutions to their Governor and/or chapter council. Chapter council approval is required to move resolutions forward to ACP national. Although not official ACP policy, a resolution becomes property of the chapter once the chapter council approves forwarding it to national. If effecting change interests you, the deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the听Spring 2025 Board of Governors Meeting is听September 27, 2024.听

2024 John Tooker Evergreen Awards
(April 2024) The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides opportunities to recognize the valuable contributions of ACP Chapters as they strive to enrich, educate, and engage membership. In 2024, ACP recognized ten winning chapters. Our Chapter received the 2024 John Tooker Evergreen Award for our initiative, Engagement Among Residents and Medical Student Members.
Engagement Among Residents and Medical Student Members听
The creation of Michigan鈥檚 Resident and Medical Student Committee increased engagement of Internal Medicine Interest Groups (IMIGs) across all seven medical schools in the state. The intent was to create a forum for engagement and community among residents and medical students of MI-ACP beyond the Annual Scientific Meeting and Resident and Medical Student Day. In 2023, four programs were held virtually with 126 registered.

Member Feedback is Requested on Spring 2024 Resolutions
(February 2024) Twenty-one (21) resolutions will be considered at the Spring 2024 Board of Governors (BOG) Meeting. With the exception of Resolution 9-S24, which will not be debated because this resolution is slated for adoption as a reaffirmation, please review each resolution and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the听听by the deadline your ACP Chapter Governor has requested or by midnight March 13, whichever comes first.听

This award recognizes a clinician who shows ongoing contribution to an independent primary care internal medicine practice in Michigan. Other notable attributes include a demonstrated dedication to teaching, research or the business of medicine and a commitment to staying up to date with best practices in internal medicine.
2023 Raymond H. Murray Governor鈥檚 Award 鈥 Staci Blackburn, MD, FACP, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Andrew P. Jameson, MD, FACP, FIDSA, AAHIVS, Michigan State University and Trinity Health Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids, Michigan
Dr. Murray was the Governor of the Michigan Chapter of the 管家婆心水论坛 from 1994-1998. He was a dedicated physician, teacher, researcher, mentor and role model. He devoted many hours to the Chapter and the specialty of Internal Medicine. This award honors members for their continued dedication and hard work for the Michigan Chapter of ACP.
2023 Jan Rival Award for Early Career Physician (ECP) 鈥 Lauren Heidemann, MD, FACP, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Nicholas J. Helmstetter, MD, FAAP, FACP, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan
Dr. Rival was a dedicated member of MI-ACP and served as Governor of the Chapter from 1998-2002. He was a long-time member of the Governor鈥檚 Council and the recipient of the Laureate Award and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Chapter.
Dr. Rival valued the opportunity to teach residents and those early in their careers. This award is given in his name to a physician who shows significant professional achievement in patient care, research and/or medical education and a promising career as a physician.
2023 Volunteerism and Community Service Award 鈥 Abigail Entz, MD, FACP, Henry Ford Health, Detroit, Michigan
The Michigan Chapter Volunteerism & Community Service Award recognizes the work of members who are involved in volunteerism and community service activities. This award pertains to activities related to medicine or for dedication to volunteerism or community service outside of medicine.
2023 Jerry Yee Mentorship Award 鈥 Kimberly M. Baker-Genaw, MD, FACP, Henry Ford Health, Detroit, Michigan; Noreen F. Rossi, MD, FACP, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan
This award is given to a physician who demonstrates commitment to supporting the scholarly and professional advancement of their students, trainees, and junior colleagues through high-quality mentoring in clinical research, post-graduate scholarship or professional development. This includes serving as a role model in communication, relationship management and ethical behavior.
The award recipients were honored at the Awards Luncheon during the 2023 MI-ACP and SHM-MI Annual Scientific Meeting in Bellaire, Michigan on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
The MI-ACP awards recognize the teaching, research, service and leadership accomplishments of distinguished internal medicine physicians.听

2023 Chapter Excellence Award 鈥 Gold Winner
We are pleased to announce that our chapter is in receipt of the Gold Level of the 2023 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes truly extraordinary chapters that surpass excellence in chapter management. We are in the company of 54 other outstanding chapters. In order to achieve the Gold Level of the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet nineteen Bronze criteria, seventeen Silver criteria and multiple Gold level activities. Criteria include such activities as having a legislative action plan or agenda, holding a volunteerism/community service activity, holding multiple stand-alone meetings, having revenue sources outside of dues and meeting registration fees, implementing a strategic plan, implementing a formal recruitment and retention plan and measuring outcomes, conducting various activities for Medical Students, Residents and Early Career Physicians.
We would like to extend a special thanks to those chapter members who assisted us in all of these endeavors! For their hard work and dedication, we received this award.
We Request Your Feedback on the Proposed Fall 2023 Board of Governors Resolutions
(August 2023) We would like to request your feedback regarding resolutions that will be considered at the Fall 2023 Board of Governors Meeting. With the exception of Resolution 3-F23 which was accepted as a reaffirmation and will not be debated, please review the balance of the slate and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the resolutions electronic response form by August 30th.
After considering the intent of each resolution and how it fits with the College鈥檚 Mission and Goals, please provide your feedback on each resolution and indicate your support or opposition by completing the electronic response form by August 30. Your input will be used as part of testimony on behalf of the chapter.

Call for Spring 2024 BOG Resolutions
(July 2023) Are you concerned about a practice or clinical issue or have an idea you'd like to suggest? If so, you might consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or chapter council.听听
Initiating a resolution provides ACP members an opportunity to focus attention at the ACP national level on a particular issue or topic that concerns them. Participating in the Board of Governors resolutions process provides the ACP grassroots member a voice and allows you to shape College policy that impacts the practice of internal medicine.
Not sure how to begin drafting a resolution? Researching the College's position on an issue can give you a start. The recently released ACP Board of Governors Resolutions Guide for ACP Members听is now available to download and will help, too.听The Guide听was created to provide members a short overview of the resolutions process essentials and highlights critical ACP online resources you must use.听听
Once drafted, members must submit resolutions to their Governor and/or chapter council. Chapter council approval to move resolutions forward to ACP national is required. A resolution becomes a resolution of the chapter once the chapter council approves forwarding it to national. If effecting change interests you, the deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the Spring 2024 Board of Governors Meeting is听October 16, 2023.听听

(June 2023) summary of Board of Regents (BOR) actions听on resolutions debated at the听Spring 2023 Board of Governors (BOG) meeting is now available. Resolutions initiated by ACP members and endorsed by a chapter council and the BOG become ACP policy when adopted by the BOR.
