Many internal medicine physicians may lack a comprehensive understanding of how intersectional factors, such as race, gender, and sexual orientation, intersect with disabilities. This gap may hinder their ability to provide inclusive and personalized care to patients with diverse backgrounds and unique challenges related to disability. Further, some physicians may exhibit inconsistency in applying person-centered language when communicating with individuals with disabilities. The gap in knowledge may lead to unintentional use of language that lacks sensitivity, potentially contributing to a less inclusive healthcare environment and affecting patient-physician relationships. Addressing this gap is crucial for fostering respectful and patient-centered care.
