ACP Applauds Supreme Court Decision on LGBTQ Rights
ACP issued a statement praising the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that was issued last week forbidding job discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The court ruled that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employers from discrimination because of a person's sex, covers sexual orientation. In the statement, ACP President, Dr. Jacqueline Fincher said, 鈥淎s physicians, we have a responsibility to protect our patients and improve the health of all Americans, and LGBTQ individuals are no exception. ACP has long said that discrimination against any person based on sexual orientation, gender, gender orientation and other personal characteristics, is a public health issue.鈥
ACP Commends Supreme Court Decision to Block DACA Rescission
In a statement issued after the U.S. Supreme Court announced their decision to block the cancellation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, ACP called attention to the medical students and residents who are protected by the program. ACP further noted that while pleased by the Supreme Court decision to support Dreamers, the fight must continue to secure the program and called on the Senate to pass the Dream and Promise Act.
