Record High Internal Medicine Residency Match Reflects Vital Role of Internal Medicine Physicians聽

PHILADELPHIA, March 17, 2023 -- The 2023 Main Residency Match revealed that internal medicine remains the largest training specialty, offering more than one-quarter (26 percent) of all PGY-1 positions in the Match. Internal medicine programs offered a record high 9,725 categorical positions, with offered primary care internal medicine positions climbing to 453. Of the categorical positions, a record high 9,345 (96.1 percent) were filled, with a record high 5,276 (56.5 percent) matched by U.S. medical school seniors. Of the primary care internal medicine positions, 445 (98.2 percent) were filled, 291 (65.4 percent) by U.S. medical school seniors.
