Governor's Message
We've done it again! Thanks to the dedication of our chapter and community members, we have once more earned the Excellence Award—WE ARE GOLD! I am incredibly proud of this achievement and deeply grateful to our board of directors, committee presidents, and my closest collaborators, Dr. Hilton Franqui and Dr. Alex Gonzalez. A special thank you to our outstanding administrative coordinator, Ms. Rina Vega. Their commitment and hard work have positioned our chapter as one of the nation's best.
I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the new Fellows (FACP) and Chapter Award recipients who have been recognized over the past year, especially those who participated in the Boston Convocation Ceremony on April 18, 2024. A special recognition goes to our new Master, Dr. Jose A. Lozada-Costa. Our residents and medical students were well represented in the Doctor's Dilemma, case presentations, and research competitions.
The Early Career Committee has also been active recently, hosting a successful Zoom event guiding physicians through the challenges of opening a new medical practice.
As we move into this new period, we are planning additional activities, actively recruiting high-level speakers, and continuing to promote the education of our internal medicine physicians. We will emphasize supporting hospitalists and early-career physicians and recruiting new members and fellows for our chapter. We also plan to resume and organize a retreat to refine our strategic plan for the upcoming years. While we celebrate our many achievements, we recognize the challenges ahead, but with God's favor, we are confident we will achieve our goals.

Wellness Corner…
By: Dr. Luzimar Conaway
At the Puerto Rico ACP Wellness Committee, we aim to prioritize self-care amidst our demanding schedules. Striking a balance between our professional responsibilities and personal well-being is our primary focus. Over the past year, we've organized outdoor activities and workshops to foster physical and emotional health. These events have included art and brunch sessions, knitting workshops, park walks, and meditation. Recently, our chapter convened at a tea party to brainstorm and develop a strategic plan for the upcoming year.
We invite each of you to become advocates for our chapter by participating in and promoting our upcoming Wellness activities. Your involvement is key to cultivating a culture of wellness within our community. Keep tuned for more activities in the future, such as yoga in the park, meditation sessions, nature walks, painting, knitting, and educational briefs on sleep disorders and obesity prevention. Be there!!!

Hospitalist Corner
By: Dr. Joanna Davis
A hospitalist is a doctor who provides care for patients at a hospital, employing quality and process improvement techniques and practices to make the hospital a safer place and improve patient outcomes. At the ACP PR Chapter, we look forward to uniting the different hospitalist groups to advocate for safer hospital practices, time to incorporate and improve the role of teaching, and better job opportunities overall.
