Happy Holiday Season,

As you are all reading this, my hope is that we are embracing fall and everything that November brings with it - sweater weather, fireplaces, leftover Halloween candy, gearing up for Thanksgiving and hopefully meeting in the middle and moving forward. Whether the election result went your way or not, know that we need to come together for the sake of the future, our families and our patients. We don't always get dealt the hand of cards we wish for, yet my hope is that you will be able to make the best of this (and every) given moment, and approach each other with kindness and compassion, always.

“You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn

I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who were so instrumental in the very successful Annual Chapter meeting that we held, on Friday, October 18th 2024, in Carmel IN. I am most grateful to the Education Committee, and to Dr. Areeba Kara without whom this event would not have been the raging success that it was.

We had some exceptional speakers once again, who held our attention and taught us why MASH is now MASLD, the newest updates in the inpatient and outpatient world (with some cool IT tricks too), the newest surgical clearance recommendations, heart failure updates, and a reminder that we can always do better in substance use disorders.

Warm congratulations, again, to the big winners from that day, both the poster and oral clinical vignettes, as well as special annual award winners, all listed below. We even had quite the successful volunteer Sock Drive, so thank you to all those who donated.

As I sign off, let me ask that you always take a moment to remember to recharge, reflect and fill your cup. Always remember the things and people who are important, and why we do what we do.

Pause. Breathe. Carry On.

With gratitude to our Veterans, and warm compassion to all. Happy Thanksgiving as well as a safe Holiday season, to you and yours, and everyone you may find at your table this fall.

Be well and stay well, always,

Dee
