Emily C. Church, MD, FACP, ACP Governor
Greetings to all ACP members!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Please take a look through the following newsletter for exciting updates from the college and upcoming local activities.
ACP AK Chapter Meeting April 2023
The Alaska ACP Chapter meeting will be held April 13-15, 2023 at the Sheraton in downtown Anchorage. Last year's in-person meeting was a great success and it was wonderful to see so many physicians in person. This year's highlights include an update from Dr. Scott Woller, Co-Chair for the ACCP Clinical Practice Guideline for antithrombotic therapy for venous thromboembolic disease. Dr. Jay Butler will be giving a special dinner talk about lessons from his time at the CDC in Atlanta. This is also an opportunity for opioid CME requirements.
ACP Internal Medicine Meeting April 2023/Spring BOG meeting
Mark your calendars for the annual meeting in San Diego April 27-29! An excellent opportunity for a sunny vacation at the end of our long Alaska winter…
2022 ACP Internal Medicine Meeting/Spring BOG Chicago Illinois
Finally! An opportunity to attend a national meeting with my fellow governor classmates and it did not disappoint! Lots of great networking opportunities with other chapters. As always I am amazed at the wealth and diversity of the talks at this event.
Fall BOG 2022
Board of Governors last fall once again pivoted to a virtual meeting at the 11th hour due to hurricane Ian projected landfall in Savannah. It was still a successful meeting with lots of good networking opportunities and informative speakers.
Chapter Excellence Award – Gold Winner
I am pleased to announce that our chapter is in receipt of the Gold Level of the 2022 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes truly extraordinary chapters that surpass excellence in chapter management. We are in the company of 47 other outstanding chapters. In order to achieve the Gold Level of the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet twenty Bronze criteria, seventeen Silver criteria and multiple Gold level activities. Criteria include such activities as having a legislative action plan or agenda, holding a volunteerism/community service activity, holding multiple stand-alone meetings, having revenue sources outside of dues and meeting registration fees, implementing a strategic plan, implementing a formal recruitment and retention plan and measuring outcomes, conducting various activities for Medical Students, Residents and Early Career Physicians. I would like to extend a special thanks to those chapter members who assisted us in all of these endeavors! For their hard work and dedication, we received this award.
I am also honored to announce I was one of the winners of the American Medical Women's Association INSPIRE award, which recognizes accomplished women physicians who exemplify the highest values in vision, integrity, service, and collaboration in medicine. Thank you to my fellow governors for their kind nomination.
Call to Action
Are you concerned about a practice or clinical issue or have an idea you'd like to suggest? If so, consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or chapter council. The deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the Fall 2023 Board of Governors Meeting is March 30, 2023.
